In 1996, the Chilean Government decided to augment school hours, that is, to move away from two “shifts,” consisting of two different groups of students who attend the same school during either the morning or the afternoon session. They opted instead to implement a full school day during which all students attend an extended school session that typically includes the entire morning and half of the afternoon.
